Jesus is, in essence, the fulfiller of the words of Isaiah’s prophecy (Isa. 42:1–4), which concern the coming of the Messiah and His works. In this passage Matthew notes that Jesus’ humble and compassionate deeds are not only an example of healing and service, but also the very fulfillment of the prophecy, which testifies that He was sent by God.
