Mark 6:41

Then Jesus, taking the five loaves and the two fish, lifted His eyes to heaven, blessed, broke the loaves into pieces, and gave them to the disciples to distribute to them. and He divided the two fish among all.

This verse is the heart of the miracle being done. Christ takes what little there is, looks up to heaven, and blesses. This gaze toward heaven shows His constant communion with the Father and also teaches us that every good thing comes from above. He blesses the bread, because every meal is ultimately a gift of God’s grace. Then He breaks it and gives it to the disciples. The miracle happens in His hand, but the distributing happens through the disciples. In this way they become not the source of the miracle, but its servants. This principle is very important in spiritual ministry as well. Christ is the source of the supply, but His people often become the hand through which that supply reaches others. The two fish also are divided among everyone. Scarcity becomes sufficiency, because it passes through Christ’s blessing.
