The disciples notice the practical difficulty. The day had passed, the place was deserted, and the crowd was large. Their observation was humanly reasonable. Often we too very quickly notice only what is lacking—time, resources, conditions. There was no malice in the disciples’ words, but there was an ordinary human, limited perspective. They still had to learn that where Christ is, difficulties do not become insoluble barriers. Nevertheless, their observation is important, because as we see and will see next, miracles often appear precisely where a person fully sees his own inability.
