While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house and said to Jairus, “Your daughter has died. Why do you trouble the Teacher any longer?”
Here the story returns again to Jairus’s sorrow. While the woman was being healed, they come with dreadful news—the report of Jairus’s daughter’s death. From a human point of view, everything was finished. They say there is no longer any need to trouble the Teacher. In these words the limit of human unbelief is expressed. As long as it was sickness, there was hope. But for them death was already the final boundary. Yet it is precisely here that the power of Christ must appear in an even more glorious way. Many times a person thinks that God can help in this or that matter, but when it comes to what he considers an impossible point, he stops waiting. This verse prepares us to see that Christ’s authority reaches even there, where human hope comes to an end.
