And He went with him. And a great crowd was following Him and pressing in on Him.
Christ immediately responds to Jairus’s request and goes with him. This bears witness to His mercy and readiness to hear the plea of those who ask for help. He does not delay, but moves toward the place of need. Yet their way is slowed, because a great crowd follows and presses in on Him. This circumstance not only shows the people’s interest and longing for Christ, but also creates a test for Jairus’s faith, since every delay could seem heavy and dangerous to him. Nevertheless, this slowing was not accidental, because, as we will see next, on this very way another miracle was to take place, by which the Lord shows that His works are not subject to human haste, but are accomplished in His wise and perfect time.
