And he was earnestly pleading with Him and saying that his daughter was at the point of death, that Jesus should come and lay His hand on her, so that she might be healed and live.
Jairus’s request expresses both pain and faith. He says that his daughter is at the point of death. This is the cry of a father’s heart. Yet within that cry there is also confidence in Jesus’ power. He believes that if Jesus comes and lays His hand on the girl, she will live. This faith perhaps was not yet filled with perfect clarity, but it was sincere. He knew that help is found only in Jesus. Often great sorrow brings a person to simple and sincere faith. When all earthly supports grow weak, a person feels more clearly that his true help is found only in Christ.
