Mark 4:3

“Listen. now, the sower went out to sow.

In this short saying, the whole call of the parable is already summed up. The word “Listen” is not merely an invitation to pay attention, but a call to spiritual wakefulness. Christ always desires first of all that a person truly listen. One of the greatest misfortunes regarding the Gospel is when a person hears only with the ear, but not with the heart. Then He presents the sower who goes out to sow. As we will understand from the thoughts expressed next, the sower symbolizes Himself—Christ—or the one who spreads the word of God, and the seed is the word of God. The sower’s “going out” shows that the word of God itself comes to people, to reach their hearts.
