And He did not speak to them without a parable, but in private He explained everything to His disciples.
This verse again emphasizes the difference between the crowd and the disciples. The parables were words spoken to the people in a general way, but to the disciples Jesus explained everything. This shows that deep understanding is connected with closeness to Jesus. Whoever remains with Him receives more light. Whoever only listens from a distance remains with a limited mind. Thus, spiritual knowledge is not merely information received by hearing, but a revelation received within a relationship. Jesus was shaping His disciples in a special way, so that they would become not only hearers, but also future witnesses and teachers.
