Mark 16:9

And rising early in the morning on the first day of the week, Jesus first appeared to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons.

The risen Christ first appears to Mary Magdalene, the woman whom He had previously set free from seven demons. This is a glorious testimony of grace. She who had once been deeply bound to the dominion of darkness now becomes one of the first witnesses of the resurrection. Jesus does not recall with shame the past of those He has saved; rather, by His grace He makes them witnesses of His glory. The first day of the week (Sunday) again underscores the reality of a new beginning. Mary’s story shows that the Savior’s grace not only frees from former bonds, but also lifts up the one who is saved in honor, giving her a share in testimony. The risen Lord draws near to broken and loving hearts.
