But go, tell His disciples and Peter that, now, He is going before you into Galilee. There you will see Him, just as He told you.”
The good news of the resurrection immediately becomes a commission. The women must go and report it to the disciples. Peter is mentioned specifically because he had fallen grievously through denial and could think that he had now been left outside the Lord’s mercy. The words “and Peter” are a sign of the risen Christ’s special grace toward the broken disciple. The Lord has not forgotten the one who wept bitterly over his sin. The promise about Galilee reminds us that Christ is faithful to His earlier word: He had said beforehand that after the resurrection He would go to Galilee ahead of them. The resurrection is not only Jesus’ victory, but also the beginning of the restoration of His disciples.
