After the rebuke, Christ gives the Great Commission. This is a great grace: those who a little earlier were in unbelief are now sent as witnesses of the resurrection. The Gospel must be preached in the whole world and to all creation. The message of salvation is not limited to one nation or one place, because Christ’s death and resurrection have worldwide significance. The word “Go” brings the church out from closed fear into mission. The Gospel is not a teaching devised by man, but the command of the risen Lord. The church lives not for itself, but in order to proclaim Christ’s salvation to all peoples.
