They too went and told the others, but they did not believe them either.
The report brought by the two witnesses was also not accepted at first. The disciples’ unbelief is repeated, and this shows the heaviness of the heart when it is wounded by grief, fear, and disappointment. God was giving them testimony after testimony, yet they were still slow in believing. This verse warns that even people who love Christ can be late to believe His promises if grief and fear in their heart prevail over the memory of faith. Yet the Lord does not leave them in doubt and does not reject them because of their weakness. With patience He adds the testimonies, and at last, by His living presence, He will overcome their unbelief, making them sure witnesses of the resurrection.
