Mark 14:70

He denied again. A little later those standing nearby again said to Peter, “Truly you are one of them, because you are a Galilean, and your speech is like theirs as well”.

Peter denies a second time, and then the trial presses in more tightly. His Galilean speech gives him away. He could have tried to hide his discipleship, but his manner of speaking revealed where he belonged. In a spiritual sense this reminds us that a person who has been with Christ bears marks upon himself, even when, out of fear, he tries to hide. The confident words of those standing nearby set Peter before the truth, but as we will see next, fear wins again. His fall deepens, because he more strongly rejects what he truly knew.
