Even within the distorted accusation, the witnesses could not agree. This again shows Christ’s innocence and the hypocrisy of their trial. God allows the false testimonies to become confused and insufficient, so that it may appear before everyone that the real reason for condemning Him was not a just charge, but envy, hatred, and the rejection of God’s truth. When the truth stands firm, the lie makes noise, but has no foundation.
