Rising to speak before the court gives their words the official appearance of testimony, but an official form cannot make a lie true. This shows that sin often loves the outward appearance of legality. The trial against Christ kept religious and judicial forms, but inwardly it was full of injustice. People can act in the language of the law against the Lord of the law.
