The young man’s naked flight portrays the shame and fear of that night. He leaves behind even his covering, only to escape violence. This episode may seem small, but it powerfully shows Christ being left alone. Everyone departs, each in his own way. In the moment of danger, a person reveals his weakness and often lets go of what he thought covered him. Christ, in contrast to everyone’s flight, did not flee, but remained, so that He might take our shame upon Himself and cover us with His righteousness.
