And He was saying, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me, but not as I will, but as You will.”
This prayer is the highest example of faith, childlike trust, and perfect obedience. The words “Abba, Father” show Christ’s immediate and loving relationship with the Father. He acknowledges the Father’s almightiness—“All things are possible for You”—yet He fully entrusts His will to the Father’s will. The cup is an image of God’s righteous judgment and of the suffering to be borne for our sins. Christ does not flee from the cross, but in prayer He submits in obedience. His words, “yet not what I will, but what You will,” became the path of our salvation.
