But Peter insisted more and more and was saying, “Even if it is necessary to die with You, I will not deny You.” And they all were saying the same.
Peter insists even more strongly on his faithfulness, and the other disciples say the same. Their words were sincere, but they still did not understand the power of temptation and the weakness of their heart. This verse shows that good intention without prayer and the grace of God is not enough. It is very easy to promise faithfulness in a calm hour, but it is hard to stand firm in the moment of danger. The Lord will allow them to recognize their weakness, so that later their service will be founded not on self-confidence, but on grace.
