Mark 14:26

And after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Christ goes toward the sufferings with a hymn. This is deeply moving: He knows the dreadful weight of the cross, yet on His lips there is praise. The Passover hymns reminded them of God’s deliverance, and now the true Savior, singing a hymn, goes to accomplish the final work of salvation. This shows that a heart fully surrendered to the Father’s will can glorify God even on the threshold of suffering. The Mount of Olives becomes the place where, after the hymn, the heavy spiritual struggle of Gethsemane will begin.
