Mark 14:25

Truly I tell you that I will no longer drink from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”

This word looks beyond the cross, toward the glorious fulfillment of the kingdom of God. Christ speaks in the language of farewell, because the hour of His sufferings is drawing near. But His word is not despair, but a promise. He speaks of the day when His people will rejoice with Him in the kingdom of God. The Last Supper is not only a remembrance of His death, but also a foretaste of future glory. The death of Christ opens the way for that joy, where the redeemed will be with Him in new and perfect fellowship.
