Evening brings the solemnity of the Last Supper. Christ comes with the twelve, knowing that one of them will betray Him (Mark 14:18), the others will be scattered (Mark 14:27), and Peter will deny Him (Mark 14:30). Yet He still sits with them, teaches, feeds, and loves to the end (John 13:1). This reveals the Lord’s patient love toward His weak disciples: He does not abandon them, even though He knows their falls. This evening is filled both with love and with the seriousness of judgment, because at the same table betrayal will be exposed and the mystery of the New Covenant will be established through the body and blood of Christ (Mark 14:22–24).
