And he will show you an upstairs room, large, furnished, and ready. Prepare for us there.”
The upper room was already prepared, because God’s providence had gone ahead of the disciples’ work. They were to prepare, but the Lord had already prepared the conditions. This shows the harmony of the divine and human sides in ministry: God opens the door, and His servants faithfully carry out their part. The large and prepared upper room becomes a sacred place where Christ will reveal the deepest mystery of the New Covenant. A place set apart for God is important not because of its outward greatness, but because the Lord is present there and establishes the mystery of His grace.
