On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, when they were slaughtering the Passover lamb, the disciples said to Him, “Where do You want to eat the Passover meal? will we go and prepare it?”
This verse brings us to the holy mystery of Passover. The Passover lamb reminded them of the night when Israel was saved from Egypt’s judgment by the sign of the lamb’s blood (Exodus 12:3–14). Now Christ is preparing to eat the last Passover with His disciples and, by His death, to fulfill what Passover foreshadowed, because He is the true Passover Lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7). The disciples’ question shows their readiness to serve the Lord, even though they still did not fully grasp what great mystery they were standing before. In divine history, the sign of the old covenant was preparing to give its place to the reality of the new covenant through the blood of Christ (Mark 14:24).
