Mark 10:8

And the two will be one flesh. Therefore they are no longer two, but one flesh.

The holiness of marriage here reaches its deepest expression. To be “one flesh” means a bond that includes the body, the soul, life, purposes, and responsibility. This word also emphasizes the uniqueness of marriage: the two become one whole, with mutual belonging, faithfulness, and the inseparability of a shared life. Therefore this holy bond cannot be viewed as temporary, easily dissolved, or as an ordinary form of multiple relationships. God unites husband and wife not as a temporary partnership, but as a new whole. The Lord shows that marriage must be regarded not in terms of personal convenience, but in the light of divine order and holy union.
