Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?” The blind man said to Him, “Teacher, that I may see.”
The Lord asks not because He does not know his need, but so that Bartimaeus may express his desire in faith. God often wants us to set our need clearly before Him. The blind man’s answer is simple: “that I may see.” He knows his misery and knows what he is asking for. These words also have a spiritual meaning: every person by nature is blind to the light of God and must say to Christ, “Lord, that I may see.” The beginning of true healing is to recognize one’s own blindness and to ask the Lord of Light for sight.
