Many were rebuking him to be silent, but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me”.
The crowd was trying to silence him, just as people sometimes become an obstacle to the soul’s prayer. But Bartimaeus’s faith does not fall silent in the face of opposition. On the contrary, he cries out even more strongly. This shows the nature of persistent faith. When a person knows that Christ is near and that only He can help, he does not stop praying because of people’s hindrances. The repetition of his cry bears witness to the soul’s determination. He could have lost the opportunity, because Jesus was passing along the road; therefore prayer becomes urgent. In the same way, the believer should not delay turning to the Lord and should not allow the influences around him to silence his faith.
