When the other ten disciples heard it, they began to be angry with James and John.
The anger of the other disciples may have been covered with a sense of justice, but most likely the same ambition was also in them. They were angry not only because James and John had come forward with a wrong request, but also because they had tried to get ahead of the others. This scene shows how ambition divides brothers. When hearts strive to be first, peace is quickly lost. Therefore Christ had to teach them again the order of His kingdom, contrary to the worldly one, where greatness is measured by service.
