And they will mock Him, and scourge Him, and spit on Him, and kill Him, and on the third day He will rise again.”
The Lord describes in detail the humiliations He is going to endure. Mockery, scourging, spitting, and murder show the deepest expression of human contempt toward the Son of God. Yet He knew all this beforehand and still went on that path. This is the greatness of His love and obedience. He also does not forget the final victory in the form of the resurrection. The darkness of the cross cannot be separated from the light of the resurrection. This word teaches the believer that in the way of God, suffering can be real and heavy, but it is not the final word if God has promised resurrection.
