The Lord answers Peter’s words and confirms that the renunciation made for Him and for the Gospel is never lost before God. He is not speaking about irresponsible flight or contempt for natural duties, but about those cases when remaining faithful to Christ requires real loss. The phrase “for Me and for the Gospel” is important: not every renunciation is blessed, but the one done in Christ’s name and for His truth. Home, family, and possessions are among a person’s dearest earthly bonds, yet even these cannot stand higher than Christ. This word comforts the believer by showing that no loss endured for God is forgotten, if it has been born of love, faithfulness, and devotion to the Gospel.
