And they were bringing little children to Him, so that He might lay His hand on them, but the disciples were rebuking those who were bringing them.
This scene reveals a great contrast between human thinking and the heart of Christ. People were bringing little children so that the Lord might bless them, because they believed in His power. But the disciples, probably thinking that they were protecting the Teacher from unnecessary burden, were rebuking them. They still had not fully understood that in Christ’s kingdom the little ones are not those who hinder, but those who are received with love. This verse also reminds us that sometimes even those who are near the Lord can mistakenly become an obstacle for those who want to come near to Him.
