Therefore among the nations I will give thanks to You, O Lord, and I will sing a psalm to Your name.
“among the nations.” He turns his deliverance into an occasion to proclaim the name of God before the peoples. The New Testament quotes this word, showing that in the Messiah’s salvation the Gentile peoples also will glorify God (Romans 15:9). Thus, the verse takes on a broader messianic meaning, going beyond the limits of David’s personal experience. Through Christ, the glory of God is proclaimed among all peoples. For the believer, this is also a call to witness: the grace received from God must not remain only a personal experience. We bear witness about the Lord by our word, conduct, and worship. Thanksgiving becomes a testimony when others also hear who God is and what kind of salvation He grants. That testimony can help people come to know God’s goodness and saving power and awaken living faith in their hearts as well.
