They called for help, but there was no one to save. they cried out to the Lord, but He did not answer them.
This verse describes the final defeat of David’s enemies. In the moment of danger they call for help and even cry out to the Lord, yet they receive no answer. Here it is not speaking about a person who turns to God with sincere repentance, but about those who had previously stubbornly opposed God’s will and sought help only at the moment of defeat. Scripture repeatedly shows that the Lord does not reject the sinner who truly turns back. Yet the mere desire to be delivered from trouble is not repentance. To seek God means not only to ask for help, but also to humble oneself before Him and accept His will. This verse warns against remembering God only in times of distress and urges us not to neglect the time when He calls a person to repentance. God’s patience is great, but it is not endless indifference toward sin.
