David continues to describe the complete victory in war. Historically, these words refer to his military opponents and portray their total defeat. This verse cannot be applied as a justification for violence against personal enemies. For the Christian, the main struggle is against sin, temptation, and spiritual evil, and his calling toward people is love and truth. The verse’s main theological emphasis is that the power of victory was not from David. The previous verses have shown that God was the One who strengthened and preserved him. Therefore, even military success must not become a basis for human boasting. The believer should likewise attribute the victories received in his life to the Lord’s grace. When a sinful habit is overcome or a person remains steadfast in temptation, the right response is gratitude and humility before God.
