Psalm 18:34

He trains my hand for war, so that my arms can bend a bronze bow.

David, as a king and warrior, confesses that his skill and strength for war are from the Lord. The bronze bow, which required great strength to draw, highlights the measure of that power received from God. Historically, the verse refers to an actual battle, yet in Christian application it shows a broader principle: God prepares and strengthens His servants for the difficulties they meet on the path of their service. In the New Covenant, the church’s main struggle is not against people, but against spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12). The Lord not only entrusts a work, but also gives the strength, skill, and endurance needed for it. The believer must be ready for the process of training given by God. Ability and endurance are often formed through trial, faithfulness, and discipline. And the strength and skill gained must not become a reason for self-glory, but should serve God’s purposes. Everything a person is able to accomplish by the strength the Lord gives is ultimately the result of His grace.
