For who is God besides the Lord, and who is a rock besides our God?
David declares the uniqueness of the Lord through rhetorical questions. No other god or human power can be compared with Him. The “Rock” is again an image of stability, safety, and unchanging strength. At the beginning of the psalm David had already called God his rock, and now that personal experience becomes a universal confession. For the believer, this verse is also a reminder of where his final trust is placed. A person may call God his rock with words, yet in reality tie his security to possessions, human status, or his own abilities. These can be useful gifts, but they cannot become a substitute for the Lord. When temporary supports change or are lost, it becomes clear what a person’s trust was truly founded on. God’s uniqueness means that final trust belongs only to Him. In a changing world, the Lord is the unchanging Rock, who remains steadfast and does not abandon the one who relies on Him.
