God’s way is blameless. the word of the Lord is refined by fire. He is a shield for all who trust in Him.
David’s personal experience leads to a general confession. God’s way is blameless, without error and without injustice. The phrase “the word of the Lord is refined by fire” shows the purity and complete trustworthiness of His word. Just as metal refined by fire is pure and firm, so God’s word has been tested and is worthy of complete trust. The Lord is also a shield for all who take refuge in Him. This protection does not mean a life free from trials, but God’s faithful keeping in the midst of trial. The believer may often not understand the Lord’s way, yet not understanding it does not mean that His way is wrong or imperfect. In time he may see part of God’s wisdom, and until then he is called to trust His character and His word. This verse teaches the believer to place his trust not in changing feelings, but in the tested and faithful word of God.
