You light my lamp. The Lord God makes my darkness bright.
A lamp is an image of life, hope, and guidance. Darkness can represent danger, sorrow, or a situation where the path cannot be seen. David does not say that he creates his own light. God lights his lamp. This is a beautiful picture of spiritual restoration. The Lord can bring back hope when everything inside a person has grown dark. He also lights the path so that a person may see the next right step. For the believer, this word does not promise that God will immediately reveal the whole future. A lamp usually lights the nearby area, not the entire road. In the same way, the Lord often gives enough light for the next obedient step. Christ is also presented as the Light of the world. God’s presence not only removes the darkness of fear, but also leads into truth.
