With the faithful You are faithful. with the blameless, blameless.
David here presents a principle of God’s righteous rule: the faithful person comes to know the Lord as faithful, and the one whose way is blameless as the blameless and righteous God. This does not mean that a person’s conduct changes God’s character. The Lord is always faithful, holy, and righteous. Yet in the course of his walk, a person comes to know God in the way He acts according to His righteousness. The words “With the faithful You are faithful” show that God does not forget His promises and does not abandon the one who relies on Him with faithfulness. The words “With the blameless, blameless” also emphasize that there is no deceit or injustice in the Lord’s works. He deals with the one who trusts in Him with perfect justice. For the believer, this is both comfort and a call to faithfulness. We do not earn God’s grace by our conduct, but as we come to know His faithfulness, we are called to walk before Him ourselves with faithfulness and an upright heart. A true relationship with God brings forth the fruit of faithfulness and a righteous walk in a person’s life.
