Show Your great love, You who by Your right hand save those who take refuge in You from their enemies.
David asks that God make His great love known in a visible way by saving him from his enemies. The words “Show Your great love” indicate that he is not appealing only to God’s power, but is also relying on His merciful and faithful love. The expression “with Your right hand You save” is an image of God’s mighty intervention: the Lord, by His power, protects and delivers those who rely on Him. David knows that in the moment of danger coming from enemies, his safety is not in his own strength or abilities. His hope is in the Lord, who with His love cares for those who rely on Him and by His power saves and preserves them. This verse reminds the believer that God’s love and power are inseparable from one another. Therefore, in a time of trouble he can turn to the Lord with confidence, placing his hope in Him who is mighty to save and faithful in His love.
