David’s prayer is filled with confidence: he calls on God because he knows that the Lord hears him. The words “Incline Your ear toward me” are a poetic image by which David asks for God’s attention and merciful intervention. He does not see God as distant and indifferent, but as the Lord who hears the one who calls to Him. This confidence does not mean that God is obligated to answer in exactly the way and at the moment a person desires. He hears and acts in His wisdom, in His own time. The believer can pray with boldness, relying not on personal merits but on God’s goodness and faithfulness. And when the answer is delayed, that is not a reason to stop praying. David’s words remind us that our feelings may change, but God’s faithfulness remains unchanging. Therefore the one who prays continues to call on the Lord and waits patiently for His answer.
