The psalm that began with the feeling of being forgotten ends with a song. David remembers that the Lord has done good to him. The remembrance of past graces restores present confidence. He may still be waiting for the full resolution of the trouble, yet he already has a reason for praise. God’s goodness is not limited to only one answer. His protection, mercy, and former deliverances testify that He is faithful. The song here is not an emotional escape, but a confession of faith. The believer can remind his soul of the good things the Lord has done, especially when present pain tries to cover them. Gratitude does not deny sorrow, but it does not allow sorrow to become the final word. Prayer led David from question to confidence, and from confidence to worship.
