The phrase “Under his tongue there is evil and lawlessness” shows a hidden evil intent: words may seem gentle or harmless on the outside, yet within they can carry a plan to mislead, to wound, or to harm. Holy Scripture places great importance on the tongue, because speech not only reveals the condition of a person’s heart, but also affects the lives of others. Deceit, slander, insult, and threat can leave deep wounds even without physical violence. This verse calls everyone to examine their own speech. The believer must renounce not only open cursing, but also the subtle, dishonest use of words to mislead another, the deliberate hiding of the truth, and plainly insulting speech. A person who serves God is called to speak the truth in love. At the same time, these words comfort those who have suffered from an evil tongue: the Lord sees and judges even the lawless deeds that are hidden from human eyes.
