He says in his heart, “I will not be shaken. from generation to generation I will not see misfortune.”
The pride of the wicked turns into false security. In his heart he convinces himself that he will never be shaken and that no misfortune will come upon him. This confidence is based not on God’s promise, but on his own strength, wealth, or position. The phrase “he says in his heart” shows inner self-deception. A person can repeat his desire for so long that he accepts it as truth. The verse warns against such false security. Life is changeable, and no one can guarantee his future by his own strength. The believer also must beware of placing his hope in material stability, status, or human plans. True firmness is in the Lord, not in the conviction that trouble will never come. God does not promise a life free from trials, but to those who rely on Him He promises His presence, His help, and final preservation.
