The wicked, with his proud face, does not seek God. There is no God in all his thoughts.
Pride keeps a person from seeking God. The expression “with a proud face” shows his inner condition: he is overly self-confident, does not realize that he needs God’s guidance, mercy, and correction, and does not want to bear responsibility before the Lord. For this reason, in his plans he leaves no room for the will of God. The words “God is not in all his thoughts” refer not only to open unbelief, but also to a life lived as though God does not see, does not speak, and does not judge. A person may confess God’s existence with words, yet make decisions guided only by his own desires and interests. This verse calls everyone to examine his own heart. Seeking God is not only asking for help in a time of trouble. It means desiring every day to know His will, to listen to His word, to acknowledge one’s own fault, and with trust to entrust to Him the paths of life. A proud heart says, “I can do it myself,” but faith confesses, “Lord, without You I cannot find the true way.” Whoever seeks God with humility, his heart is opened to truth, repentance, and living faith.
