The Lord is King forever and ever. The nations have perished from His land.
After the psalm’s long lament, a firm confession of faith is heard: the Lord is the eternal King. The wicked may grow strong for a time, but their rule is temporary. God’s kingdom does not depend on people’s acceptance, political changes, or historical upheavals. The phrase “The nations have perished from His land” refers to God’s judgment on forces that oppose Him and act with violence, not to human hatred toward other peoples. The psalmist is confident that the Lord will finally restrain evil and deliver His land from unjust rule. For the believer, this is great comfort in times of political and social instability. No earthly authority is eternal, but the Lord’s throne remains unshaken. Therefore a person’s ultimate hope and loyalty should be directed not to passing powers, but to the eternal King. To accept His kingdom means not only to confess with words that God is Lord, but also to live according to His righteousness, mercy, and truth.
