He will be like a tree planted by streams of water, which gives its fruit in its season and whose leaf does not wither. And everything that he does will prosper.
The righteous person is compared not to a tree that grew by chance, but to a tree deliberately planted by waters. This image shows a life preserved by God’s grace and nourished by His word. The streams of waters represent the constant spiritual nourishment that the Lord gives to His people. The tree bears fruit “in its season”; spiritual maturity is not always instantaneous, yet a life rooted in the word of God will surely bring forth good fruit over time. Those fruits may be faith, love, patience, obedience, and mercy (Galatians 5:22–23). The leaf that does not wither symbolizes inner vitality and endurance in times of trials. The phrase “everything will prosper” is not a promise that every worldly desire will be fulfilled. It means that work done according to God’s will will not be lost and will ultimately serve His good purpose. Even in trial, the righteous remains spiritually fruitful, because the source of his life is not circumstances, but the Lord.
