But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and he meditates on His law day and night.
The righteous person not only turns away from evil, but also fills his heart with the word of God. The Lord’s law is not a heavy burden for him, but a source of joy and a trustworthy guide for life. The word “law” here includes God’s revealed will, commandments, and teaching. The righteous loves that word, because through it he comes to know God’s holiness, mercy, and truth. “To meditate day and night” means continually remembering, examining, and applying the words of Holy Scripture. This does not mean that a person is constantly reading aloud only, but that the word of God dwells in his mind and directs his decisions. What the heart loves, the mind often returns to. Therefore, meditation on the word is also a sign of spiritual love. The believer is called not only to hear the word, but to do it, allowing it to cleanse his desires and shape his life (James 1:22).
