Blessed are those who are pure in heart, because they will see God.
In this passage Jesus pronounces blessing on those who are “pure in heart.” Purity of heart refers to a person’s inner condition, that the individual is honest, sincere, and without deceit. Purity of heart includes right thoughts, pure desires, and a direction toward God. Jesus promises that the pure in heart will see God, as the greatest blessing. Those who are honest and sincere in their faith and actions will sense God’s presence in their lives, and in the ultimate sense, they will see God in eternal life, when every barrier will be removed from them. This saying emphasizes the importance that a person must draw near to God not only with outward deeds, but also inwardly, with purity of heart. Purity of heart opens the door to a true spiritual relationship with God and to the visibility of His presence.
