Matthew 5:45

So that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven, for he makes his sun rise on both the evil and the good, and brings rain on both the righteous and the unrighteous.

In this saying, Jesus explains why we must love our enemies and be kind toward everyone: it makes us more like our heavenly Father. God cares equally for all people, regardless of their behavior. He makes the sun rise and brings the rain upon both the righteous and the unrighteous, showing the universal nature of his love and goodness. Jesus teaches us that if we want to be God’s children, we must become like him in his love and patience, not only toward those who are friendly to us, but also toward those who are hostile. Thus, loving our enemies means following God’s example and becoming his true child, expressing the same boundless love and goodness as he does.
