But I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

Divorce, when done for another motive, becomes not only unfaithfulness but also a cause of sin, driving the other into adultery. This word affirms that marriage is not a contract but a spiritual union whose foundation is faithfulness and love, and whoever destroys that bond for unjust reasons steps outside God’s will, violating the law of the union He has established.
